Household Sewage Treatment Plant

Household Sewage Treatment Plant VODA 8 (2-8 connected residents)

Sewage Treatment Plant

This is a facility that in terms of capacity is scaled to deal with as many as 8 connected residents, despite which, the price for this plant is lower than many on the market designed for a capacity of only 4 people.

Small household sewage treatment plants (STP) offer a solution to the problem of disposing waste for newly built or renovated older residential properties. Cleaning wastewater is done on biological principles. First of all, larger impurities such as large particles are removed, whereupon the biological contaminants of the sewage are extracted by micro-organisms.

In terms of manufacture, these STPs " are designed as cylindrical plastic tanks, in which the technical apparatus is laid out to ensure effective biological cleaning. One essential ingredient for the biological process to work is the supply of air. This is provided by an aeration unit. The aeration unit is the size of a car battery and is mainly installed indoors, in the utility area of a family home. This unit just needs a 230 V socket to plug into.

The device works at a noise level of a fridge, and its electricity consumption is approximately CZK 1000 per year. The STP operates without generating any odours i.e. you can install the plant right beneath a bedroom window!
Sewage Treatment Plant
The household sewage treatment plant is installed into a pre-prepared construction pit with concrete foundations  (without supporting structure) thickness 100 mm. If the underground water level at the site is not high, fill in round the STP with the dug soil. Where the water table is high, the STP must be concreted in place up to the underground water level.

The builder usually has prepared plastic PVC piping for the inflow of wastewater and outflow of cleaned water. The STP“ is connected to this piping during installation. To cover the STP we use a plastic lid, strengthened on the underside. In cases of construction readiness, installation of the STP" should take a maximum of 4 hours.

From the above it follows that burying a barrel of water is not a problem, and that any concerns that this involves a complex construction job are unfounded. Unfortunately, this is not the case when it comes to securing the right documentation to licence the STP as a water management installation. For this reason we offer to provide all your documentation, especially project documentation.

CONSTRUCTION DESIGN FOR SITING A HOUSEHOLD SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

We recommend siting the aeration unit either in a concrete pillar with a  stainless steel cover, which would be next to the STP, or to put it inside the house.

The household STP tank has a diameter of 1500 mm and  a height of 1450 mm in its standard design. When placing it at a greater depth than the height of the STP, a plastic extension should be pre-ordered. The STP must be stood on a concrete slab with a thickness of 100 mm, strengthened by rebar cage.

The household sewage treatment plant can sometimes be installed up to the level of the terrain without additional static protection – depending on local conditions. The reactor tank is statically designed to be buried in sandy to loamy soils, naturally damp and settled with a specific weight of 1.85 t/m3 with an angle of internal friction of 36o with a footing bottom at a maximum of 2500 mm below the level of the landscaped terrain. The tank is not designed to bear additional loads, e.g. moving vehicles. If necessary, the tank must be statically secured using, for example, concreting. The burying or concreting procedure is given in the mounting regulations for burying or concreting sewage treatment plants.
Sewage Treatment Plant
The sewage treatment tank must be covered to prevent unauthorised persons gaining access to the  sewage treatment plant, and yet at the same time allow for service intervention. The cover must allow access to the entire cross section of the teatment tank. The sewage treatment tank is not designed to be entered by people.

The design of the air supply system results from the potential location points of the air pump. The air hose, leading from the air pump to the distributor in the sewage treatment plant, must be placed within a protective tube ø min. 40 mm. The shortest possible hose length should be selected, max. 15 m.

The lower edge of the inflow pipe is situated 1270 mm from the bottom of the tank. The lower edge of the outflow pipe is situated 1190 mm from the bottom of the tank. The inflow and outflow pipes are manufactured as standard with a DN 150.

PREPARATION FOR MOUNTING THE STP

In order to install the household sewage treatment plant it is necessary to prepare in advance a concrete slab in an excavated construction pit, which is approximately 1 m larger than the plan dimensions of the treatment plant (i.e. approx. 2500 mm), providing the terrain and soil composition layers allow. In addition it is necessary to find a place to site the air pump, fusebox and a cable that will lead from the main household consumer unit to the planned site of the fusebox. Also bear in mind that a sufficient quantity of clean water is necessary to fill up the sewage treatment plant.

PREPARING THE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

Close to the planned site of the fusebox, install a 230 V socket, which will be protected with a separate 230 V/4 amp fuse in the main consumer unit. The 64 W/230 V aeration unit LA-60B is connected to the fusebox.

SLUDGE MANAGEMENT

Depending on the amount of use, it will be necessary to remove sludge from the treatment plant – (expected 2x a year); the timetable will be determined according to an assessment of the pilot operation. Sludge with excess biological matter must be aerobically stabilised and disposed of with the approval of the water management authorities. A sludge drying bed will have to be specified (provided by the investor).

MEASURMENT AND REGULATION

Aeration of the activation tank is carried out using te aeration unit, which is switched on and off automatically..

OPERATING COSTS

Power supply:  64 W/ 230 V
At the start of pilot operations the amount service is proportionally higher. Repairs, service and maintenance will be carried out by engineers from specialist service organisations and selected staff of the operator. The technological management of the sewage treatment plant, assessment of its operation and impact will be carried out by the engineer and water management specialist  of the operator
